Four times a year we cast off. Different breweries every time, new beers, a new theme — and always Hamburg seen from the water. No two trips are the same. One thing never changes: the beer is always freshly tapped.
Think of it as a brewery tour that runs across the water instead of through a brewhouse. Three hours by barge through the port of Hamburg, past the Speicherstadt and the Landungsbrücken, out onto the Elbe and back again. The casks travel with us and are tapped throughout. Beer on the water, rather than at a bar under strip lighting.
Who is behind it
The Bierkassenfahrt is run by IT'S A WRAP Brewing Company from Hamburg and by Mister Bierzeps. For each trip we put together a selection from several breweries: mostly from Hamburg and the region around it, every so often something from further afield. At least six different beers, from helles through IPA to stout, and always something alcohol-free. Which breweries are on board and what the focus is appears in the schedule well beforehand.
Tickets
Tickets are digital only. At the pier, the ticket on your phone is all you need.

Number of tickets- Payment
- Handled by our shop, tickets arrive by email.
- Returns
- Up to 14 days before the trip. After that you can pass your ticket on to someone else.
- Cancellation
- If the trip is called off, you get a full refund.
- Withdrawal
- German law grants no right of withdrawal for tickets to leisure events held on a fixed date (§ 312g (2) no. 9 BGB). Details in the Widerrufsbelehrung (German).

Good to know
Can I pass my ticket on?
Yes. Just send us the name of the person coming instead, any time up to the day before. The ticket is then in their name.
Do you sail on the Alster as well?
No. The Bierkassenfahrt is a harbour cruise: Speicherstadt, Landungsbrücken, the Elbe, the shipyards and Blankenese. Barges of this kind run in the port, not on the Alster lake. So if you are after an Alster cruise, we are the wrong people — if you want to see Hamburg from the water with a beer in hand, the right ones.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The barge is covered and heated, so rain is no reason to stay ashore. Only storms or ice stop us, and then you get a full refund.
Is there a toilet on board?
Yes, there is one on board.
Is the barge wheelchair accessible?
Boarding is over a gangway with steps, the deck itself is level. Get in touch before buying if you use a wheelchair or a walking frame — we will sort something out for you.
Can we sit together as a group?
Of course you can. For larger groups or a boat all to yourselves, just write to us.
What does “45 tickets minimum” mean?
The trip can only go ahead with at least 45 tickets sold. If we are short two weeks beforehand, we have to call it off. Tickets already bought are of course refunded in full.
